OUR SCHOOL SONG

Years ago, a school parent discovered some beautiful lyrics tucked away in our music room. Although the lyricist was unknown at the time, the words deeply resonated with everyone. Shortly afterwards the lyricist was identified as Hunter Owens, a music teacher at Nicholson Street Public School in the early '00s who had composed the lyrics together with the students. In 2020, Lara Dodd composed new music to bring these lyrics to life, crafting a tune that perfectly reflects our school values. Now, at every school assembly, we sing this song and live out our values every day—truly embracing the Nicho way!

Who We Are

I walk through the gates again I see all my friends, through the trees I feel the breeze from the harbour.

School bell rings just like it has since 1883, teachers wave good morning and together we begin.

We learn, we laugh, we live, we sing, in our small school, with a big heart.

A place where you are free, to be who you are.

A place where you are free, to accomplish every dream.

A place where you are free, to reach for the stars, we’re Nicholson Street, it’s who we are.

Community all get along, we’re strong, kind and curious, find a passion let it grow, stay true, be resilient.

With my peers throughout the years I know I belong, even when I leave this place I won’t be gone for long.

We learn, we laugh, we live we sing in our small school, with a big heart.

A place where you are free to be who you are.

A place where you are free to accomplish every dream.

A place where you are free to reach for the stars, we’re Nicholson Street it’s who we are.

A place where you are free to be who you are.

A place where you are free to accomplish every dream.

A place where you are free to reach for the stars, we’re Nicholson Street, it’s who we are.

It’s just a place, it’s just a place but it’s who we are.
